Ulugh Beg Cultural Centre
The objective of this competition was to revitalise the historic centre of
the central Asian city of Samarkand by means of a recreational, cultural and
religious programme, situated in a multifunction complex of buildings and
open spaces called the Ulugh Beg Centre.
The proposal was to connect the oldest urban fabrics and the monuments and temples of the pre-modern reign of Timur to the contemporary Soviet parts.
